Forestry

The estate has a small in hand forestry portfolio managed under a 5-yearly Forestry Commission Woodland Grant Scheme (to be superseeded by the Better Woodlands for Wales scheme on expiry this aumumn) and under our own in house longer-term management programme.

Any felled timber is always replanted with an appropriate species mix often 80% hardwoods for both short and long term environmental benefit and long-term financial reward.

Charcoal, Firewood, kindling and timber

We are currently exploring options for charcoal, firewood and kindling. A district heating system is also being investigated which will provide hot water and heating to a cluster of houses, in turn providing a use for the estate’s low-grade soft and hardwood timber.
